Data Analyst



A vacancy exists for a Data Analyst within the Micro Merchant Division – Touchsides, in Rosebank, Johannesburg.  

The primary focus as Data Analyst is to collect, analyze, clean and interpret data sets across the business to make informed decisions. Utilize technical expertise to ensure data is accurate and high-quality.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Translate business questions and goals into data-driven insights and actionable outcomes
  • Interpret data, analyse results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports
  • Implement data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality
  • Develops ad hoc analyses from start to finish; conceptualisation, data gathering, analysis, presentation, and monitoring
  • Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain data systems
  • Identify, analyse, explore and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
  • Identify anomalies in the data, explore and perform deep analysis to explain why they happen and what the Business should do to rectify
  • Filter and identify rules for cleansing of data by reviewing computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems
  • Interpret business data requirements
  • Locate and define new process improvement opportunities
  • Implement effective data management approaches that ensures accuracy and consistency of data
  • Partner with the data engineering team to build automated and scalable data pipelines that drive specific business outcomes
  • Using automated tools to extract data from primary and secondary sources
  • Removing corrupted data and fixing coding errors and related problems
  • Developing and maintaining databases, and data systems – reorganizing data in a readable format
  • Performing analysis to assess the quality and meaning of data
  • Filter Data by reviewing reports and performance indicators to identify and correct code problems
  • Using statistical tools to identify, analyse, and interpret patterns and trends in complex data sets could be helpful for the diagnosis and prediction
  • Assigning numerical value to essential business functions so that business performance can be assessed and compared over periods of time.
  • Analysing local, national, and global trends that impact both the organization and the industry
  • Working with programmers, engineers, and management heads to identify process improvement opportunities, propose system modifications, and devise data governance strategies.
  • Preparing final analysis reports for the stakeholders to understand the data-analysis steps, enabling them to take important decisions based on various facts and trends.
  • Exploratory Data Analysis Project by scrutinizing   data to recognize and identify patterns.
  • Use data modelling techniques to summarize the overall features of data analysis.

In order to be considered for this position, the following requirements must be met:

  • BSc Degree in Computer/ Statistics/ Mathematics or equivalent qualification
  • 3-5 years’ proven experience as a Data Analyst or a related role.
  • E-Commerce and Business Analytics would be advantageous.
  • Advanced SQL skills, fluency in Python/R/Julia, advanced data analysis skills in Excel would too be an advantage.
  • Experience in data query languages (e.g. SQL) is a must.
  • Experience in statistics (e.g. hypothesis testing, regressions, experimentation logic and biases).

Competencies required:

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools such as Power BI, SQL.
  • Knowledge of the industry and market dynamics is a plus.
  • Ability to collect, organize, analyse, and disseminate information.
  • Competent at resolving data queries, report writing and presenting findings.
  • Experience in analysing large quantities of data (terabyte sized datasets)
  • Able to comprehend data modelling, data architecture and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Experience using data visualization tools (Power BI advantageous).
  • Exceptional data visualisation and storytelling abilities.
  • Ability to derive actionable insights from the data.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
  • Confidence to interact with both technical and non-technical staff across all levels of seniority in the organisations and at our clients.
  • Ability to analyse, extract, normalise, and label relevant data.
  • Knowledge of market analysis and consumer behaviour.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
  • Excellent data modelling and data visualization skills.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and sales force automation.
