Terms and Conditions
1. RECORDAL
1.1 If you (the “Bursar”) choose to enter the Kazang STEM Skills Bursary Programme (the “Application”) you acknowledge and agree that the rules, as set out in these Terms and Conditions (the “Terms and Conditions”), are binding and enforceable on you.
1.2 Mainstreet 1723 Proprietary Limited will be referred to as the (the “Company”) in respect of the Application and in these Terms and Conditions.
1.3 The Application will be accepted from 7 November 2024 to 27 January 2025, both days inclusive whereafter no further applications will be accepted.
2. THE BURSARY
2.1 WHEREAS THE COMPANY undertakes to grant the Bursar a bursary award to allow him/her to obtain a degree in any of the following areas:
2.1.1. computer science;
2.1.2. information technology;
2.1.3. information systems;
2.1.4. data science;
2.1.5. mechatronics;
2.1.6. software development;
2.1.7. computer engineering;
2.1.8. cloud engineering;
2.1.9. business analysis;
2.1.10. mathematics; and
2.1.11. Statistics,
subject to the terms and conditions contained in these Terms and Conditions.
2.2. AND WHEREAS THE BURSAR will be granted an amount of up to R100 000.00 for registration and tuition to obtain a degree in any of the above subjects
2.3. AND WHEREAS THE BURSAR indicated an intention to engage in studies to obtain a degree in these subjects subject to these Terms and Conditions.
3. THE BURSARY CONDITIONS
3.1. The Bursar must be a relative or have a dependent relationship with a loyal, active Kazang value-added-services and or Kazang Pay user, which has been a user for at least 1 year and which accounts for a volume over R50 000.00 in sales and card transactions per month in the liquor and spaza sectors (“Kazang Customer”). The Bursar will be required to provide the Kazang wallet number of the Kazang Customer for purposes of verification.
3.2. The Bursar will be registered as a full-time student during the tenure of the Bursary at an institution of higher learning as stipulated in the letter of award provided by the Company.
3.3. The Bursar must have successfully completed his/her first year of study at an institution of higher learning having achieved an average of 65% in his/her overall results for the first year of study.
3.4. If a Bursar wishes to change the field of study, institution for which the Bursary was awarded, details must be submitted to the Company through the appropriate authority for consideration prior to such a change.
3.5. The Bursar must maintain an average of 65% in his/her overall results to be eligible for a further year of tuition to be sponsored in this Bursary.
3.6. Should the Bursar fail to fulfil any of the aforesaid conditions, or should it transpire that a Bursary was awarded on the basis of false information supplied to the Company, the Company would be entitled to forthwith cancel the Bursary.
3.7. These Terms and Conditions contains all the general provisions related to the Bursary, including a service binding clause in favour of the Company that the Company shall retain the right (but not the obligation) on completion of the Bursar’s qualification, to employ the Bursar on a full-time basis.
3.8. The opportunity for a contract of employment for the Bursar will be determined by the availability of funds, and future needs regarding personnel composition, provided that appropriate vacancies exist.
3.9. If there is no vacancy within the Company nothing in these Terms and Conditions shall be taken as to impose an obligation on the Company to employ the candidate after completion of his/her qualification.
4. BURSAR UNDERTAKINGS
The Bursar undertakes:
4.1. to commence the second year of the relevant course with effect from the 2025 academic year, to take the relevant course full-time, and to complete the course successfully within the aforementioned period or within such extended period as may be approved by the Company;
4.2. to furnish the Company with satisfactory proof of enrolment for the second year of the course and thereafter at the commencement of each year of study;
4.3. to furnish the Company with satisfactory proof of relationship with a Kazang Customer (which includes but is not limited to: birth certificates, ID copies, sworn affidavits attesting to such relationship or proof of dependence on the Kazang Customer);
4.4. to furnish the Company with satisfactory proof of change in course with accompanying written motivation (if applicable) (within 6 months of the 2025 academic year);
4.5. to undergo such practical training as may be prescribed by the aforementioned training institution as part of the course or as may be required for purposes of registration in a particular profession, in the Company, if the Company so desires; and
4.6. to furnish the Company with official proof of examination results immediately after the results of any annual/bi-annual examination/supplementary examinations have been made known by the examining authority.
The Bursar understands and accept that:
4.7. the Company is under no obligation to employ him/her after he/she has complied with the requirements of the Bursary;
4.8. the Company may at any time suspend the payment of the Bursary monies if the Company is, in its sole discretion, of the opinion that he/she is not making satisfactory progress with the course;
4.9. the Company may at any time suspend or withdraw the payment of the Bursary monies if the Bursar’s relative fails to continue to be a Kazang Customer, however, in the event of the death of the Bursar’s relative being the Kazang Customer, the Bursar shall be able to retain the Bursary so long as he/she maintains an average of 65% in his/her overall results for the following years of study;
4.10. if the Company so suspends the payment of the Bursary monies for his/her studies:
4.10.1. he/she may repeat and complete successfully at his/her own expense any subjects which are outstanding;
4.10.2. he/she shall be permitted to exceed the prescribed minimum duration/ minimum remaining duration of the course by a period as determined by the Company; an
4.10.3 he/she shall continue to be subject to the provision of this Bursary during such period of suspension or extension.
The Bursar further understands and accept that:
4.11. irrespective of the amount involved in terms of this Bursary, any action which may arise from this Bursary may be instituted in a Magistrate’s Court in South Africa which may otherwise have jurisdiction; and
4.12. he/she will notify the Company of any change of address or contact details whilst participating in this Bursary.
