Sales & Business Development Manager



A vacancy exists for the above within the Micro Merchant Division, in Gaborone Botswana.

In summary, the role covers sales and marketing services under Electronic payments, and Value-added services (VAS). products.

The purpose of this role is to lead the Sales, Business Development & Marketing plans of the organizations as indicated. You will be expected to consult, negotiate and make progress on deals to the point of signing up new customers; Source viable opportunities to promote the business; secure required daily interactions and build a solid pipeline of opportunities. You must display the ability to Build relationships, Close deals; Recruit and Manage Sales Reps.

Key Performance Areas include, but are not limited to:

Sales & Sales Management:

  • Lead Customer acquisition and Retention for all Lesaka business which includes Kazang and SmartSwitch, but not limited to
  • Deploy and support your devices to a pre-determined base as agreed.
  • Be responsible for helping the organisation to obtain improving brand recognition through products and financial growth
  • Lead and manage Sales teams and External Agents.
  • Meeting Monthly and Yearly Performance requirements and sales targets as budgeted.
  • Set, review, manage, and continuously review sales performance, and plan strategies to ensure that targets are met.
  • Assist field sales staff in identifying and closing large business opportunities
  • Ensure sales reps are looking for an opportunity to cross-sell and propose accordingly
  • Participating in growing these teams by being part of sales staff recruitment and training and mentoring of sales staff in the field.
  • Management of underperforming team members
  • Growth of local base through new placements and base maintenance.
  • Management of underperforming devices in the market

Administration & Reporting:

  • Ensure company policies and procedures are adhered to by all sales representatives.
  • Manage your own and the sales team’s travel and expense claims and reconciliations
  • Conduct performance appraisals in line with company policy.
  • Have a monthly planning of sales staff activities.
  • Coordinate sales efforts with marketing and sales management
  • Comply with Regional admin office requirements as per monthly cycles.
  • Ensuring correct procedures are followed by all sales representatives including completion of all expense and internal documentation required by head office.
  • Contract, KSIC’s, and other internal process administration.
  • Adhere to the requirements of the business when placing devices.
  • Ensure the sales team is kept informed regarding the business plans and goals.
  • Weekly sales meeting coordination.
  • Coordinate sales efforts with marketing management.
  • Interaction and cooperation with the Sales Admin team and the ability to perform work within acceptable timelines.
  • Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly reporting to the Country Director as defined and required.
  • Work to key weekly reporting and management cycles with Country Sales teams.
  • Drive Special Projects as and when required.

Problem-Solving

  • Where required, work with other departments to refine and implement these solutions to ensure the Project delivery is achieved
  • Identifying trends, determining local sales system improvements, and implementing changes required by management from time to time.
  • Research sources for developing prospective customers and for information to determine their potential.
  • Be able to problem-solve as you go. Proactively propose solutions to problems and be willing to action these.
  • Guidance from your Country Director and other key management and colleagues from time to time is encouraged and advised.

In order to be considered for this position, the following requirements must be met:

  • Degree in Commerce or Sales Management, Marketing Management, Marketing, Business Administration or Equivalents.
  • 3 – 5 years in Sales management and leadership.
  • Driver’s License.

Technical Competencies:

  • Computer literacy – MS Office Suite (Outlook and Excel) Ability to hold sales reps accountable.
